Istanbul FIE Satelite / Budapest Training Camp
Our Elite Fencers took part in the Istanbul FIE Satelite and the Hungarian National Trials over the past two weekends. The FIE Satelite Series is an international circuit of competitions which awards FIE World Ranking points to those placed in the top 8. The Hungarian Trials were also part of the European U-23 Circuit and the level of the competition was high. These competitions were part of the preparation for the upcoming SEA Games to be held in June.
In Istanbul, our Men's Sabre fencers Clive Leu and David Chan were unlucky in the round of 32, both losing their matches closely with Clive losing 12-15 and David going down 14-15. For the Women's Sabre event, Sharmaine did well in the preliminary rounds but unfortunately got upset 12-15 in the round of 32. Ann lost 13-15 in the round of 16, and Ywen beat her club-mate Joyce in the round of 32 before eventually finishing with a Bronze medal. Well done!
The weekend in Istanbul was followed by a week of training in Budapest with local club KVSE, as well as some physical training at a Muay Thai Gym! The week concluded with our participation in the Hungarian National Trials, where Ywen and Ann were our best performers from Singapore, both finishing in the top 16 - a good result in a tough competition which featured fencers from Hungary, Russia, Canada, Brazil, Turkey and other countries.
