December 2015 - Hong Kong and Taipei!

The month of December was a busy month for our Youth and Elite Asgard fencers as they were involved in competitions over in Hong Kong and Taipei. These competitions contributed ranking points towards our National Senior and Junior rankings. Some of our newer youth fencers also participated in their first international training camp and they definitely had an enriching experience!

In the Hong Kong Open, Ywen and Joyce both finished in the Top 16, while Ann finished in the Quarterfinal, losing to the eventual winner. The Hong Kong Open was followed by the Taipei Open the next week, and Asgard was represented by Joyce, Nicole, Rosamond, Alexis, Xinyi and Minji. Joyce finished in the Quarterfinals and Nicole unfortunately lost her match 14-15 in the round of 16. Rosamond, Alexis, Xinyi and Minji also gained vital experience in their first major International event, with Alexis and Minji progressing to the round of 32. The girls also did well in the team events, with one team reaching the quarterfinals, and Joyce and Nicole winning Bronze with the combined Asgard-SSP team.

The trip was also highly memorable for Rosamond, Alexis, Xinyi and Minji as they attended their first ever training camp at FSA fencing club in Hong Kong. It was a great opportunity to bond as a team and they certainly made many new friends amongst the fencers at the club. Many thanks to FSA Coaches Chung and Alfred for hosting us!
