Sabre Coach / National Fencer
Clive’s first glimpse of Fencing was through the TV during the 2004 Athens Olympic Games, and his interest was piqued by what he saw. He signed up for classes during his school holidays and what began for him as a recreational hobby has now become his passion as he pursues sporting glory on the international arena.
In 2010, Singapore hosted its inaugural Cadet World Cup and Clive was crowned Champion in the Men’s Sabre event, demonstrating his potential of becoming the top Men’s Sabre fencer in the country. He has since gone on to win medals in Cadet, Junior and Senior Competitions, both locally and in the international scene. He is currently the captain of the Singapore Men’s Sabre team.
“Train smart, train hard. There are days when you will be tired or sick of training and it is easy not to turn up. Pushing yourself to continue is what separates the champions from the rest. Fencing has taught me much about prioritising my life decisions. It has taught me about sacrifice, responsibility and independence. As a kid, I never expected this to be my path in life, but I have absolutely no regrets.”
Clive is currently an undergraduate in the RMIT Bachelor of Business program and shares some of the coaching duties at Asgard. He remains an active member of the National Sabre team and is looking to represent Singapore at the Olympic Qualification event in April 2016.
